Greatest Flick?

Mike
Dear (Insert Your Name Here),

Have you ewe thought to yourself - that might be one of the best movies I have ever seen!!!!  Well the thought hit me last night while watching Tin Cup that I would like to know my Top 10 sports movies of all time.  Now I don't want just any ole list out there so I thought I'd enlist the help of Beefcake Barbour to compile the list. That being said it will most assuredly be a work in progress as movies evolve and my tastes change. However, what I'm looking for is the list that any aficionado of movies of the sporting persuasion can pick  up my list and say - "ya know that's a pretty good list!". And possibly pick up a movie that they haven't seen before just to see what they've been missing. Therefore, I'm starting the list and watching it blossom into the best list - EVER!

A couple qualifiers that I went with are rewatchablity and/or goosebumps factor.

In no particular order -(that cones later)

Tin cup
Major league
Field of dreams
Rudy.
Replacements
Legend of bagger Vance
Varsity blues
Bull Durham
Miracle
Cool runnings
 The cutting edge
Coach carter
Remember the titans

Chris
Well done Ninja. But there are several omissions from your "best list ever". I can only attribute this to your carelessness in selecting the "best" sports films ever. I'll see if I can't help you out. Only one question my man, how do you leave out Caddy Shack altogether, much less not have it numero uno?

Caddy Shack
The Natural
Rudy
Bull Durham
For Love of The Game
Remember The Titans
Rise and Walk: The Dennis Byrd Story
Major League
Friday Night Lights
Tin Cup
The Replacements
Best of The Best

That's the best I can do off the top of my head. I do agree that re-watchablility is crucial to being a member of this very distinguished list. Let's narrow this list down to the Top 5 Best.

Mike
Very good point on the omission of The 'Shack. I'd had the idea for a couple of weeks for the list but just put together the first movies that came to mind. I'll bet as we really scrub the list - it will be obvious we missed a few others out there.  Also,  I noticed something while compiling my list and then reading over yours.  Did you notice it as well?!?  Kevin Costner might be the President of the Movie Star Athlete Club.      However, on to the biz at hand. A quick note - narrowing this down was SUPER hard for me.  But it's what I would consider to be my Top 5 unless I've missed some movie.

Top 5(thus far).  IN ORDER!!!!
1)Tin Cup - good flick that women/men alike can enjoy and possibly one of the best goosebump moments EVER. As Molly says to the Cup "Hell Roy - no ones gonna remember who won the open 25 yrs from now!!!! But, they will remember your 11!!!  Why, it's immortal!". If that quote (directly from
Memory banks de Bledsoe) doesn't make you want to see it!  Well something is wrong with you.
2)Remember the Titans - Everything you need. Overcoming a horrible situation in Old America. Great leading and supporting actors who couldn't have been better selected. Excellent(believable football scenes).
3)Major League - had all the bug stars in their primes.  Comedic factor still holds up today. Let's pretend the sequels didn't happen!
4)Gridiron Gang - don't know how we missed it in preliminary list but this is a movie FULL of goosebumps and a great feel good story.
5) For the love of the Game - Costner in a love story while playing a ball game. If ur a baseball fan and love the idea of the old guard making one last charge, this ones for you!

Honorable Mention - Rudy. The older the movie gets the worse the acting stands out to me.  But still has great football goosebump moment. Which probably dulled for me due to the fact that I read a report that the climatic scene never happened.

  1. The Sandlot should be mentioned. Unnecessary Roughness, Any Given Sunday, Rocky!!!, Jerry Maguire, White Men Can't Jump, Million Dollar Baby, The Mighty Ducks, Two for the Money (sports betting movie).
